Pick Your Own
This is your farm, so come on and Pick Your Own!
In the rapidly approaching 2008 growing and eating season, Wolf Pine Farm will include a Pick Your Own Garden for CSA members to join
us in the fields and bring in some of the bounty.
The Pick Your Own Garden will include Sugar Snap and Bush Beans and Three Varieties of Cherry Tomatoes.
These crops are fun and easy to pick, and will allow us to share both the beautiful and tranquil tree lined setting of the farm,
as well as the great satisfaction and sense of connection that comes from harvesting food, getting to know the plants and soaking
in the sun.
Peas and Beans will be available early in the season, from mid-June to mid-July and Cherry Tomatoes will be available from
Early August through the Fall. Plan to spend about 20 minutes or so the Garden to gather your share.
The designated spot for the Pick Your Garden will be in a long strip behind the CSA barn, close enough to the farm road for
easy accessibility, but far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the main barn distribution area.
Each week, quantities of Pick Your Own crops will change depending on availability. This information will be clearly posted
in the barn distribution area and in the newsletter, which members are encouraged to pick up when they arrive at the farm. The
farm will provide all necessary containers to measure quantities and plastic bags for transport, but members are also encouraged
to bring their own bags.
Rows for picking will be clearly marked, and general information and guidelines will be available regarding what to look for while
harvesting, such as a bed map explaining where to walk and where to avoid, the ideal size of peas and so on. All children will need
to be supervised by an adult at all times on the farm.
A great deal of planning and intention goes into the food that we grow at Wolf Pine Farm, based on knowledge, experience, favorite
flavors and faith in the unknown, trusting that it will all work out. With that, the Pick Your Garden is a honor-based system,
unfortunately not a free for all. Even if it appears that there is a tremendous overabundance of a particular crop, we ask that you
please stick to the quantity guidelines so all members of the CSA community get an equal share. When it's time to glean, we will let
you know! Additionally if you split a share, you must also split your Pick Your Own portion.
Looking forward to seeing you in the Garden!
